Honour and Hope

Song of the Day: Honour and Hope

Yesterday's heartbreaking events in Nova Scotia leave most of us speechless and in pain.  When I sat down at my computer this morning to upload my "Song of the Day" for this website, it was a difficult task, because I didn't know what song could be appropriate at a time like this.

I finally chose to honour the victims of the April 19th (2020) tragedy with an instrumental my husband and I performed outside in our yard yesterday.

The song you hear is improvised.  We are just playing the music as we go along, not following any particular written music or known song.  We are playing an instrument called the Handpan.  This instrument was invented in Switzerland in the year 2000, by Felix Rohner and Sabina Scharer.

The handpan is made of 2 half-shells of steel, which are glued together.  It is hollow inside. The top side has a center ‘note’ hammered into it, and there are seven or eight other ‘notes’ hammered around the center.

                                     Close your eyes.
Hope and dream of a peaceful world.
